Deep Earth Magic to you Marion Weinstein
Marion Weinstein 1939-2009
It was 1978 when Positive Magic: Occult Self-Help was written by Marion Weinstein. What she brought to the pagan table was a sweet, personal book of shadows that showed the world that a witch could live gently as a witch within society, practicing her magic in an everyday fashion.
By using the word “positive,” she helped to bend and change the paradigm of how others outside this pagan theology would view us. Like me, she worked to bring the Craft out of the shadows and into the light of a new era.
The book is a classic, and so was Marion.
I count seven books to Marion’s credits. That’s a goodly amount of work to document this wonderful woman’s life.
Those who knew or experienced Marion Weinstein were always in for a treat. She had a background in stand-up comedy. I appreciate that.
Marion enjoyed a good amount of pagan celebrity within the witchcraft (Wiccan) community. She produced and hosted a radio show in New York for many years. Much of her celebrity was on the East Coast, but we West Coast witches knew of her too. She influenced us all.
She was born May 19, 1939. Marion passed away on July 1, 2009 at the age of 70. I’m almost 70. She was my generation. Her passing hits home in a very deep way.
Donna Henes, Mama Donna, of Brooklyn, NY is holding a memorial service for Marion Weinstein at the New York City Pagan Pride Festival. The New York City Pagan Pride Festival will be held Saturday, September 26th from 11 am-5pm at Battery Park in New York City. For more information on the memorial services, you can contact Donna Henes at 718-857-1343 or email her at cityshaman@aol.com. (Thanks Paula Jean West, Pagan Travel Examiner, for that bit of information.)
I’m posting one of Marion’s videos for you. It’s a good way to remember her; to give her your attentions and your love. She has twenty-five videos for us up on YouTube.com. Twenty-five! I’d better get busy!
Deep blessings to you Marion Weinstein. Dear soul. Sweet sister in Goddess. Deep peace.

Marion blazed many trails for the Craft, Paganism, and Goddess Spirituality — going where no Witch had gone before ….America’s first weekly Witchcraft radio show (1969), first stand-up comedian Witch, & one of the first Pagans to broadcast on internet radio. Marion was a dear friend of mine & she is missed. She lives on in her many creative works and in the many lives she touched. Blessed Be, Marion! We will be dedicating a memorial stone & place at Circle Cemetery in Wisconsin on Saturday, October 31 & aiding with her New York City Memorial on Saturday, September 26. My teacher, and my teacher’s teacher were greatly influenced by Marion’s book, Positive Magic, and especially her Words of Power techniques. I have been re-reading Positive Magic and can clearly see how much they brought her words and teachings into every day use; passing them along to us in practice, and making her book required reading. I’m very glad to be a part of Marion’s work and heritage in that way.
I met her back in 1996 at Rowe Camp and Conference Center during a weekend workshop called Three Witches from the Big Apple. It was Marion, Margot Adler and a woman named Eclipse. It was a grand and transformational weekend I shall never forget (Margot may be able to elaborate on this!)
I was lucky enough to correspond with her last year when I requested her to inscribe her new book, Words of Power, before she sent it out to me. I will always treasure it. She was extremely gracious with her time and attention and I sincerely hope that someone will preserve her body of work and her legacy by making her books, recordings and products available once again. I feel that Marion would want them to continue to be available to people. She was a true Witch and Priestess in that her greatest concern was to help people help themselves.
I will miss Marion so much, but I am grateful for the enumerable gifts and memories she has left us.
May she rest in the comfort of the Goddess’s arms, and may we meet, know and love her again.
Blessed Be,
Diane Champigny (Priestess Thea)

The first book I read about Wicca/Paganism was Earth Magic. Marion’s teachings are very powerful indeed. She will be greatly missed.
Blessings to you Marion.
